Jamie - I'm like you. Inspiration and perspiration, so far, are my reasons for writing. Most of the time, they will start working together once I've gotten my words or "thinking hat" going.

"there's just got to be someone out there who can benefit from my words" I with ya there as well.

Again, I thank you for stopping by. And thanks for your insight!

There are times when I feel "inspired" to write, and then there are times where I feel like I just HAVE to write. Day to day life (in my niche anyway) presents itself with so many opportunities to write on, sometimes I have a hard time picking one.

In terms of the root of the inspiration, I like to envision my audience needing help - in my case, help with their teens. I'm not a perfect parent (shh, don't tell anyone), but I do think I have a realistic approach, my kids are confident and independent, and I have so many personal experiences to draw upon that there's just got to be someone out there who can benefit from my words. That, for me, is my inspiration.

<abbr><em>Jamie’s last blog post..<a href="http://wiredparentpad.com/energy-drinks-and-teens-what-every-parent-ought-to-know/" rel="nofollow">Energy Drinks and Teens - What Every Parent Ought to Know</a></abbr></em>

Hey Matthew! Glad you made it over. Thanks for the "at a boy". I sometimes ...er..need it a lot. I'm getting better with my self-confidence though.

Hey, don't worry about just now finding me. It hasn't been too long ago that I found myself and I've been around me for 35 years. ;)

Look forward to having you around! Oh, and thanks for the sub.

Peace.

Before I begin, I want you to know that I really, really like your layout.

I think you're on the right track (and so do you, apparently) with just writing whatever your experiences are from day to day - writing about whatever inspires you (even if it inspiration from not being inspired).

You wouldn't be true to your blog title if you didn't. And don't worry about staying true to your tag line, the ramblings are from your mind (which also happens to be the mind of a recovering alcoholic, but no matter) and that is a wonderful thing.

I can't believe I haven't found you until now. I remember your comment in my entry, but I wasn't able to follow it back right away. I'm sorry that I didn't. I will be back again.

Oktober, so..I'm doing it "right". I know, right is however I want it to be. ;) But riding the wave, that's what I typically do. And your right, you can't just get off of that wave for a bit...and then get back on..and expect the same ride. Being new at writing, there are so many wonders, but I think I'm on the right track.

Thanks for your input and also for the encouragement you've given me toward my blog. I've got a tagline for you in return. ....Blogging Without A Tagline.... :) Just kidding.

"The directions may be straying a bit from day to day, but I feel that I’m still pulling back toward my purpose."

I meant to comment on this too, because it's something I've thought about lately. I don't know exactly what my purpose is. I have a small idea, but nothing too clear. And the fact that my "direction" strays is actually encouraging to me. I kind of hope it never stays the same. It's fun to make little changes all the time--keeps the writing fresh for me.

When I come to your site, I can see a very clear purpose. Now, every post doesn't always address that purpose directly, but the general feel is the same. At least you have a tagline!

For blog posts, it's usually a matter of having an idea come to me (usually by something I read, experience, or just randomly thought) and then sitting down in the moment and letting the idea carry me through an article. In short, it's a process of translating a thought or idea into a blog post.

What happens in that translation process is hard to describe, but it's kind of like riding a wave. Not only do you have to catch it when it comes--so, write it down when it hits you--but you have to ride it out. Nothings makes for a worse article than one that I start briefly, stop, and then start again later on. It's so hard to find that "muse" again, or that train of thought. When the stars (thoughts) align, it's time to write!

Sometimes listening to music helps me. Other times it's a walk in the park, or a conversation with my wife.
