“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and your discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.”
-Patanjali Quote
The very first word ever written on The Ever-Changing Thought was written then even without knowing just how TRUE it was. It was a one word sentence (if you know what I mean). It was a very powerful word for me at that time. It had a lot of special meaning even then. It felt really powerful when I saw it sprawled across this screen. But I didn’t realize then just how powerful.
Since that day, the word has broadened it’s meaning too me. It has sprouted branches in my mind. It has been brought out of so many other parts of my life on these branches. Growing daily, exponentially. It is truly a great realization.
Oh, like you haven’t already looked. Well, just in case you haven’t. The mystery word is…..
DORMANT
When I see the word, the image that comes to mind is a hibernating bear. But, I don’t like that image. I much prefer a sleeping volcano.
Looking back, the first time that word was placed here can be compared to the first shakes and grumbles of a sleeping volcano. As time has passed and more words have spread across the screen, the volcano has been growing, building pressure. Little steam valves of posts popping here and there.
Now I feel that the volcano, which is my mind, my thoughts, is in full eruption. Spreading the lava laden words from my mind through the screen and into your life. Into your eyes, your mind. All in preparation to help your volcano grow and thrive and soon spew these words to others. Not destructive lava, but the most loving thoughtful lava one may ever come in contact with.
Your volcanoes are also helping mine to thrive. Your words pass through the caverns of my mind. Finding a deep spot to lay and pulse and spew. It is a wonderful circle of life.
It was almost by accident actually.
Everyone has that same lighting in their living room it seems. There is a familiar flickering blue glow that permeates from every home, though it is being seen less and less these days. Ah, that glow from the TV has been replaced by my table lamp and the sometimes white, sometimes multicolored, glow from my screen.
I’ve all but quit watching TV. I do have it on most of the time, but generally it’s just to kill the silence in the room. Plus, there is something not right about being in a room with a TV AND that TV not being on. I’m trying to figure out how to break the silence with music. Probably more relaxing that way.
I have a DVR. When I first started this blog and also studying for my Sunday morning class, it was a blessing and a curse. I had shows to watch. They weren’t getting watched. I was getting way behind on the water cooler talk at work. Shows were haunting me by their being. Now, that doesn’t even seem to bother me. My DVR is over 60% full. I don’t think I’ve missed a moments sleep because of it.
Not causing my mind to be idle by sticking my nose in the TV, but exercising it. Causing it to work and think and do what God intended it to do. That is the biggest way I have continued to be not-dormant.
I want to take a few minutes here to say to each of you a very special thank you. I can’t name you individually for a couple of reasons.
First, it most likely wouldn’t be fair as so many in this blogosphere have touched my life. There is no one more special or more deserving to be called out. So. Thank you, EACH OF YOU, from the bottom of my heart and soul for allowing me to warm your minds with my words. Thank you for helping me fill my volcano.
Secondly, I don’t know all of you. If you are subscribed or are planning on subscribing, would you do me a favor. Would you leave a comment and just say hey if you don’t mind? Just so I know who you are. I know you are out there. Don’t worry if you’ve never commented. Your email address remains hidden, though I will have it. But I won’t do anything like SPAM you or anything
I just want to know who you are. Some I know, Some I have no clue.
(I’ve got to figure out a way to make my posts shorter

Just saying “hey!” as requested. I’m subscribed and happy about it
Scott, this is my first visit here. And I am taken aback by your open-ness, which is so refreshing to see. I am subscribing today, and I will be back visiting, cheering you on, and learning about you and myself in the process. Your example of the dormant volcano is a powerful one, and especially when thinking about the lava as loving lava – what a wonderful picture that puts in my mind. I wish you well on your journey, my friend.

We have a TV in the living room and never watch it, btw, though I do spend way too much time on the computer.

@Jennifer – Your most welcome! Thank you for coming by. I am excited to have you around!
I didn’t want to talk about how much time I spent on the computer
It is too much I’m sure. But, most of the time I’m sitting here exercising my brain. That’s my story and I’m sticking too it (for now).
Thanks Again!
Scott-Sounds like you are on quite a journey through your “new” life. I’m so happy for you that you found your way down this new path. Each of us have parts of our lives that we need to work on-we can always do better!

Leslie’s last blog post..Last Saturday-This Saturday-MURAL Progress!
I only watch TV in my study, when I’m exercising on my NordicTrack treadmill or bouncing on my jogging trampoline. And I never watch it directly, I watch tapes of news programs and DVDs from Netflix. Mostly I like quiet so I can think.
Good luck on your journey, and thanks for sharing it with us.

UrbanVox’s last blog post..Monday morning, shut the door baby don’t say a word!
@UrbanVox – Hey right back! I guess I’ll let you add me to your reader.
Hey Scott,
This is my first time over. I have seen you around the comment section of blogs that I visit. I have also been on a journey, not the same, but a journey. I have two blogs actually. If you come over to visit you can read the special note in my sidebar.
Life does throw us punches. It is all about getting back up on our feet and moving onward. Dormancy is a needed place at times. It is there that we discover. It is there that we build our foundation. We do erupt and usually more than once or twice in a lifetime.
I look forward to following your journey! Hey, don’t worry about making your post shorter. A true blogger follower will read it all and get to know you. Sure, you will have passing readers. Building a community is what blogging is about.
Cricket’s last blog post..Breathe in, breathe out
@Cricket – I remember you. I first saw you over at a Butterflies in My Hand’s first guest post by yours truly. I have visited you, and will visit you much much more. I wanted follow your new blog but for some reason, couldn’t find it. I got it now.
I’ve never known an eruption quite like the one I’m in the middle of. Most of my earth shaking events were usually implosions. I’m really enjoying this, a LOT.
I will be following you as well, and will offer my words of…um..wisdom(?) whenever I see an opening. I really like the community, and welcome to mine!
