Some of you may be wondering how things are going with my back. Well, I’m going to tell ya…in a bit. But first, I’m going to let you in on what all has been done to torture fix me.
First, on Monday I had my first experience with physical therapy of any kind. If you’ve never been, well, I just don’t know what to tell ya. The experience was a little bit of Chuck E Cheese’s mixed with a little bit of putting an arm back in it’s socket. Swirl those up for a few minutes and you have….”therapy.”
The Chuck E Cheese part was the massage that I was given first. Well, I don’t know if it was actually a massage or not, but it sorta felt like that. I suppose in order for the “therapist” to find all the wrongs, a sort of massage had to be given. The “putting the arm back in it’s socket” part was when those wrongs were found and had to be made right.
I had two vertebra that “would not move” she said. She pressed on the side of one that moved to show me how it should feel. I could feel it move and it felt kinda nice. She then pressed on the side of one that “felt like running into a brick wall” and I could tell it wasn’t right because it, well, it hurt when she gave that part of the demonstration, twice.
In order to get the vertebra to move, she had to press on the side of it several times. Several several times. You know, every time she did this, it hurt.
It wasn’t a bad hurt. It was one of those ooo…ahhh…owwww…..HOLY COW…..ahhhhh…kinda hurts. I wanted to scream “stop..don’t sto…stop…don..” if you know what I mean.
I’m also pretty sure her arm was half made of sword. At several points through the “therapy” she laid her arm horizontally across my back, right on top of those wrong spots, and I was pretty sure she was trying to cut them out. Pretty sure.
Soon I hear, “Well, Good! There we go. That one moved!”
“Yay!” I said. I really think I said yay.
“Now for the one in your neck,” she said.
“OK,” then I mumble something I’m not real sure myself what it was. Needless to say, that process started over with the same results.
“Your going to want to go home and take one of your pain pills when you leave here. It’s probably going to hurt after everything I’ve done to you.”
I’m thinking….really? You don’t say?
She then showed me how to lay on a rolled up towel to improve my posture. I have horrible posture and some of the muscles needed to hold my spine in place are not working. Hence the problems I’m having.
Then it was on to traction. Where she then strapped my head to a medieval device used for ripping heads off. Only, the object was not to rip my head off completely. Just, almost completely. I have to say, my head was almost ripped off completely. Actually, this felt rather good. Took some of the pressure off of those nasty parts that were hurting.
Then today I had an MRI. Won’t know any of the results until next week. Everyone should get an MRI once in their life I think. It’s not painful at all. If your claustrophobic it could cause you problems. The sounds though are pretty cool. I heard them when my daughter had her MRI. Today I was right there with them. I can only describe it as the sound one drill might make that worked on King Kong’s teeth. But again, wasn’t bad at all. Almost lulled me to sleep. Almost.
“OK Scott! How is your back now?”
Oh, it’s feeling a little better actually. This in turn has gotten my spirits up a bit too. More PT tomorrow and Friday, and it’s about time.
Finally, as we finish up the day, just want to say that you have just read my 100th post! I’m shocked with myself. I’ve managed to stay with this, enjoy this, for as long as I have. I look forward to many 100′s more. Thanks for being in my life these 100 days.
Because of HIM
