My Foundation is Cracked

This morning I sat and pondered what in the world, or not in this world, is going on with me? Then, I had the following moment.

There is a commercial circulating on the TV that starts with 3 folks sitting on a couch.  The couch, though, is not horizontally set in the TV.  It’s tilted as if the characters are sitting on a couch that is sitting on a very un-level floor.  The guy in the middle says something to the homeowners about this being a sign that they may have foundation problems.

Aha! I think that is partially what makes my days so…off..as of late.  When I get up, the foundation that I lay for my day is not strong enough to hold the bricks and mortar of the rest of the day.

A Good Foundation

I used to get up start my foundation with the most important material I can start with.  The Word of God, talking to God more personally, filling my mind with the perfect material.  Plenty strong to hold the heaviest objects that get put on top of it as the day progresses.

The Old Frame

Thing is, back then I had a really good foundation, but weak walls and “guts”.  The rest of the day, I often grabbed whatever I could to build up the frame.  Then, I would add on top of that a strong cap or roof.  The foundation was great, it held up perfectly.  But with the strong roof to end the day, the walls would bow and strain and crack and collapse.  Everything in between the foundation and roof was mush.

Change of Plans Part I

I made it a point to start using better material for framing and spending more time in that work.  Seems to be working great, but, I’ve been using whatever material I could get by with to lay my foundation.  Don’t get me wrong.  This stuff is great material, just not good for a foundation. It’s better suited for the furniture of life.

As the day progresses I have been using strong material for the framing.  Good, Godly, hardy material.  Thing is, as I start to add more and more of this throughout the day, my weak foundation starts to crack!  By the time I add the good sturdy roof, the foundation has sunk into the mire of life and I become cracked.

Change of Plans Part II

So, now that I’ve got the good strong framing material and the good roofing material, I need to go back to laying that good, sturdy, Godly foundation. It sounds like it should make for a much more stable life.

Another insightful post Scott. I know when my foundation begins to crack I need to step back and and find out how to rebuild. God is a very good architect…

To consciously be aware of the medi’s influence on the mind and prioirities is a step to moving beyond external influence. Life is beautiful as it is and many human beings are distracted from the truth. Each being is on the way back. It is a process of learning to reconnect with what was never lost.

I don’t remember the exact scripture but maybe that’s what Jesus meant by building your faith on the rock. I learned from a pastor that there is a stone in Israel called cinemanean stone which doesn’t erode like other stones. It’s the same stone they used to builds the temples and such.

Also Peter means “stone” and Jesus called him that because he knew his faith would be like a stone. You’ll find your rock.

@Kool Aid – Yep, there is that scripture and that popped in my mind a little bit into this post. When I read that scripture I think of it as a more long term build. This post, and The Making of A Day posts, come at it from a more short-term, day-to-day experience.
