Hey Scott- Long time... I love the verse you posted, There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. -1 John 4:18
I have posted it on Facebook for all to see...what with all the fear going on, everyone needs to hear this verse.
Love you Scott, miss you and will get back to blogging and visiting soon!

Blessings Always,
Leslie

Scott -

the quick story for me is that faith kicks the fear away... fear can live where there is faith - I believe it's one of those battles i will fight forever... faith is easy in so many areas of my life - but that dark places where i scared to put my faith in God's awesomeness... (yeah figure that statement out)

if i may attempt to type up a story i've learned along the way... with a slightly different take from my "normal"

normally, i attempt to use this illustration to show the difference between faith and belief - but as i was reading your post and the comments the story was showing me a different result...

the setup:
a few people watching a guy walk a wheel barrel across a tight rope with a few pumpkins - then the guy ask the group if they believed he could wheel a guy across... oops forgot to mention the rope was across the grand canyon...

all the folks said they believed he could...

the guy then asked who has faith that he could wheel a guy across... all the folks looked at him and asked what the difference was ...

the guy looked at one and said faith is getting in the wheel barrel...

believing in something still allows for doubt/fear - having faith brings us through fearlessly...

i am not an all or nothing guy - so, i do believe that Jesus meets us where we are at and teachers us faith and how to get into the wheel barrel... we only need to respond to His call to be born again...

once we are born again - the ride begins... thankfully God has given us brothers & sisters to be our seatbelts on this ride - "all the disciples in 1 accord following God in His triumph"

Love your posts brother - iron sharpens iron, great discussion!

"I remember standing with the front door open, like you do during a horrible storm."

"like you do" um...no. :-) Wrong place to be when scared...no wonder you were even more scared. I used to hide in the hall or a closet...you know like they say to do. That or go to my neighbors who were like my third grandparents...man I loved her cornbread!

Anyway, I think as faith increases, fear decreases. As far as a math term, I think that would be termed a negative corelation. However, it is a positive event. :-)

Back to the storm example, the longer you stood in that door and watched, the more scared you got. If you would have sought shelter in a closet or hallway like you should have, your fear would have lessened. Just as seeking the shelter of God, increasing our faith, would lessen our fear. So, if you're scared get out of the doorway and seek God's shelter.

"...are you saying that they aren’t comparable? "

I am saying that they can not co-exist. Where there is light, darkness must retreat. In the same way, when we act on faith, fear is overcome. That being said, fear is something I struggle with every day. I know the faithfulness of the Father, but sometimes it's hard to make my feet move when they need to.

"As far as asking God where he sustains and blesses me, I don’t know if I could handle all of the different ways he could possibly show me."

...and isn't that a wonderful problem to have?

God bless and keep you Brother

Hey Betsy - Oh, man, isn't that a great backup to have!?! I, like you, don't think fear will ever be gone until that glorious day. I do like what you said about acknowledging fear. I said to myself "She's on to something there," because just talking about the fear of something does seem to weaken it considerably. Seems like I should have figured that out a long time ago. Thanks for your input!

David - Either way I look at this, either your comment or my thoughts, I see in some mathematical comparison that Fear > Faith.
Or when you say "Faith is to fear as light is to darkness" are you saying that they aren't comparable?

As far as asking God where he sustains and blesses me, I don't know if I could handle all of the different ways he could possibly show me.

Hi Scott - What I've found is that once you acknowledge fear, it tends to dissipate. Suppression makes it mutate and become stronger. God is with us. He's got our back when we stand up and face fear. I don't think we'll ever be completely without fear until we're in his kingdom. So, as long as I'm walkin' the earth, I'm grateful for the backup.

Don’t fear and my faith will increase?

I don't think you grow faith by lessening fear, I think you lessen fear as your faith grows. I am asking God (right now as a matter of fact) to show me all the places where He sustains and blesses me throughout the day. Seems to me that will strengthen my faith, and I think as my faith strengthens, fear will die. To me, faith is to fear as light is to darkness if that makes any sense.
